Preparation
Prepare all ingredients for the pita bread. Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature. If necessary, melt the 150 grams of butter so that it becomes liquid and then let the cloudy particles sink to the bottom so that clear liquid butter remains. Weigh the melted butter to 135 grams of liquid butter.
Stir the yeast into the water with a whisk and let it stand for a few minutes. In the bowl of the food processor, mix the ingredients for the pita dough for the pita bread. To do this, spoon the flour, honey and salt into the bowl of the food processor. Stir in the liquid butter and pour in the water with the yeast. Knead this into a nice white elastic pita dough in the food processor with dough hook. Knead the pita dough for about 7 to 10 minutes, until a nice ball forms which easily comes loose from the bowl.
Cover the pita dough with cling film and cover it with a kitchen towel. Let this rise for 30 minutes now. Prepare the barbecue for indirect barbecuing with a temperature of 180 – 220 gr. C.
After rising for 30 minutes, dust the work surface with flour and place the dough on top. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin, fold the pita dough in half once and roll it out again, to a slice of approximately 4 mm thickness . Cut out circles of pita bread with the 12 to 15 cm cutter.
Grill the pita bread indirectly on a floured piece of aluminum foil, about 5 minutes on one side and about 3 minutes on the other. During grilling, the pita bread will rise and get a nice color.
This pita bread is delicious with gyros, souvlaki, shoarma, etc.
