Preparation
Prepare all ingredients for the Mediterranean burger. Add the Mediterranean rub, garlic powder and oregano to the minced meat. Finely grate the red onion into the minced meat. Crumble half of the feta into the ground beef. Mix all this with the ground beef. Knead this briefly.
Make 3 equal balls about 150 grams of the minced meat mixture. Flatten the ball into a nice burger. A hamburger press can also be used for this. Then put a piece of cling film in the hamburger press on which the minced meat comes. Place a piece of cling film on top of this, after which the burger can be pressed. This keeps the hamburger press clean and your burger is packed right away. Place a cube of feta in the middle of each burger. Make sure the feta is surrounded with minced meat.
Press a dimple in the middle of each Mediterranean burger with your thumb, this way the burgers will cook evenly and will not get any thickening in the middle. Let the Mediterranean burgers rest in the fridge for at least 3 hours for a better binding. Let the burgers come to room temperature before preparing.
Prepare the barbecue with a direct and indirect zone with a temperature of 250 gr. C. Cook the burgers briefly indirectly. Then grill the Mediterranean burgers directly over the hot charcoal for about 3 minutes per side. Turn them over and cook them to a core temperature of 54 to 58 gr. C.
Roast the pita rolls on the barbecue. Serve the Mediterranean burgers on a warm pita roll with homemade tzatziki on top. Place a slice of cucumber on top of the grilled burger. Top it off with a piece of feta, onion. Serve with a delicious Greek salad if desired.
